Construction update
Week of June 30:
The footings in the Family Birth Place courtyard were poured last week, and we expect to begin pouring concrete for the foundation walls either July 3 or July 7.
In the surgery courtyard, we expect the earth shoring to begin in mid-July. The windows in patient rooms 60 through 66 and all office windows in the patient care unit hallway will be boarded up before this begins. Some sound baffling will also be installed to help muffle the drilling noise.
We expect that these windows will be blocked for three to four weeks. To add extra light to the patient rooms and avoid the harsh overhead fluorescent glow, nursing leadership has purchased temporary lighting.
Baby, we're growing!
We are adding 32,000 square feet for the Family Birth Place and Surgical Services. Both areas have experienced steady growth since we opened our doors at our current campus in 1999.
YVMC’s Family Birth Place has broken its delivery records for the past two years, delivering 431 newborns in 2007. Often, mothers are moved to the Medical/Surgical unit for care after their babies arrive due to overcrowding in the current space. This project will double the existing space, allowing us to care for all maternity patients within the Family Birth Place.
The emphasis will be on enhanced comfort, privacy and support in a family-friendly design. Features include a new family waiting room, a lactation consultation room and an expanded area for healthy babies and the Special Care Nursery. Spacious rooms will accommodate a support person for each mother.
Surgery also set a new record for cases during 2007. As our surgeons continue to perform more cases and more complicated surgeries, a fourth operating room is needed. Additionally, two new suites for minor procedures will offer patients a less-intensive environment.
The two major building additions and a series of internal remodeling projects will be completed in 2009 at an estimated cost of $13 million.
The Healthcare Foundation for the Yampa Valley has undertaken ambitious fundraising efforts that preserve past accomplishments and consolidate present strengths to reach new levels of care at YVMC in the future. The Foundation helps provide funding for essential healthcare programs that depend on philanthropic support and would not exist without charitable giving.
Donations can be made to the Foundation for a specific hospital program, project, service or equipment, or may be given without restriction to be used where the need is greatest.
